Arba Minch University (AMU) was selected by Flemish Interuniversity Council-University Development Cooperation (VLIR-UOS) as a partner university to start an institutional university cooperation (IUC) programme. This IUC will run from 2017 to 2021 under the coordination of Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. The objectives of such an IUC is institutional capacity building, enabling the university to fulfill its role in the society in terms of education, research as well as strengthening the university-industry linkages and technology transfer. The AMU-IUC will contribute sustainably to human capacity building, which is currently strongly needed given the vast expansion of AMU in terms of number of students, research priorities and number of study programmes. The AMU-IUC programme will also develop joint research projects and partnerships with the IUC experienced universities in southern hemisphere. The multidisciplinary research programmes of AMU-IUC have center of courtesy on 6 thematic research priority areas. In the following page different research projects related to this multidisciplinary research topics are presented. All research projects will create PhD opportunities, based on the research that will be undertaken. The AMU-IUC team acknowledges VLIR-UOS and DGC (directorate General for Belgian Development cooperation) for the financial, and technical support.
