Admasu Yirgalem Bireda, a PhD student in the AMU IUC Project’s Research sub-project 5, is making notable strides at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, KU Leuven, Belgium. His research, focused on optimizing strategies for soil fertility management and plant material development to improve Enset productivity, is conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Karen VancampenhoutProf. Dr. Bart Muys, and Prof. Dr. Olivier Honnay.

Expressing deep gratitude, Admasu credits the International Office for playing a key role in his smooth transition to KU Leuven. Their unwavering support, from assisting with mobility form submissions to expediting visa applications, made his journey as an international researcher seamless and stress-free.

“One of the highlights of my time at KU Leuven has been the weekly lab meetings, where my peers and I share our research progress and ideas,” Admasu explained. “I’ve also had the chance to attend a wide range of seminars, public presentations, and social events, all of which have enriched my academic journey. The well-equipped labs, extensive libraries, and easily accessible study spaces have helped me sharpen my technical skills, broaden my knowledge, and manage my time more effectively.”
